后安錠是由HRA藥廠生產的事後藥，被發現對於超過75公斤的女性效用較低，並且對超過80公斤的女性無效。
后安錠的活性成分levonorgestrel也存在於美國製造的數個品牌的事後藥之中，讓美國公司重新審視他們的規範。美國食品藥品監督管理局（FDA）表示：「現在正在重新審視與此問題有關的現有、相關科學資訊。」
其他事後藥現在獲推薦給過重的女性，由於事後避孕藥的效用似乎會受脂肪吸收而有影響，研究指出服用事後藥作為緊急避孕手段時，過重女性跟較為苗條的女性相比，比較有可能會懷孕。
一般的避孕藥、宮內節育器（IUDs）、保險套以及其他避孕設備都被建議為替代方案，不過它們不是緊急避孕時用的設備，需要緊急避孕的人應該跟她們的醫生討論不同選擇。

A French company has issued warnings with its morning-after contraceptive pill after a Scottish study found it to be ineffective in heavier women.
Norlevo, the morning-after pill made by HRA Pharma, was found to be less effective in women over 75kg and ineffective in women over 80kg.
Norlevos active ingredient, levonorgestrel, is in several brands of morning-after pills made in the US as well, leading American companies to review their guidelines. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has stated it is, currently reviewing the available and related scientific information on this issue.
Other emergency contraceptives are now being recommended to overweight women, as the morning-after pills effectiveness seems to be impacted by fat absorption, with studies indicating that overweight women were four times more likely to become pregnant than their slimmer counterparts when using the pill as emergency contraception.
Regular birth control pills, IUDs (intra-uterine devices), condoms, and other contraceptive devices are being suggested as alternatives, however, they are not emergency use devices, and those who need emergency contraception should discuss options with their doctor.
