(Business) Gradual Rebound Forecast for Global Economy
After five years of financial crises and recession, there is finally some good news.
The World Bank recently revised its forecast for global growth this year. According to the organizations twice-yearly Global Economics Prospects report, growth in global gross domestic product is projected to firm from 2.4% in 2013 to 3.2% this year, a 0.2% increase from its June forecast. In addition, the momentum which countries such as Japan and the US have built up is also expected to support stronger growth in developing countries.
Although the global economy is slowly picking up steam, with advanced economies showing signs of recovery and China continuing to deliver good performance, the bank remained cautious. It noted that growth prospects are still vulnerable to rising interest rates and potential volatility in capital flows as a result of the US Federal Reserves gradual withdrawal of its massive monetary stimulus.
In terms of risk avoidance, the World Bank stressed the need for developing countries to adopt structural reforms that can help create jobs and strengthen financial systems, and shore up social safety nets.
