貓空纜車的營運持續呈現赤字，對北投新建設計畫的疑慮已經浮現。
台北市政府最近因貓纜差勁的經營管理而飽受批評，貓纜這過去三年內積累的損失已達3.6億新台幣。「貓纜是一個超賠本生意。每營運一天，就添加一筆35萬的赤字。載一個乘客平均就損失41元。」民進黨臺北市議員吳思瑤表示。
由於這不斷累積的損失，擔心北投纜車會步上貓纜後塵的恐懼也逐漸增加。吳思瑤呼籲市政府重新評估北投纜車計畫，並建議先暫緩此案。她也表示北投區的地質狀況會使纜車比貓空區域的工程不穩固且更危險。
作為回應，台北市長郝龍斌保證市政府將會負責把關並監控這個工程。他也說這個工程的環境影響評估報告已經完成了，而這個工程現在已經依據適當規範進行中。
(Life) Beitou Gondola Plans Take a Blow
With the Maokong Gondola continuing to operate in the red, concerns over the new construction project in Beitou have been raised.
The Taipei City Government has recently been blamed for poor management of the Maokong Gondola, which has accumulated NT$360 million in losses over the past three years. The Maokong Gondola is a great money-losing venture. For each days operation, it adds NT$350,000 to its deficit. It loses an average of NT$41 for each passenger, said Democratic Progressive Party Taipei City Councilor Wu Su-yao.
In the wake of the mounting losses, fears have arisen that the Beitou gondola would follow in the footsteps of the Maokong Gondola. Wu has called on the city government to reassess the proposed Beitou gondola project and suggested that it be put on hold. She also remarked that the geology of Beitou District would make the proposed gondola weaker and riskier than the construction in the Maokong area.
In response, Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin gave his assurance that the city government will uphold its responsibility to oversee and monitor the project. He also said that the environmental impact assessment report for the project is already complete and that the project is now proceeding according to proper regulations.
