據信這歷史性的協定對世上最窮的幾個國家而言可說是「救生索」。富國和較為先進的開發中國家同意減少來自窮國產品的關稅，這點意謂著他們將會更容易販售產品。也希望他們增加的貿易能力將會為物流和基礎建設帶來更多投資。
儘管有這些進展，一些開發宣傳者批評了此項協定，說此項協定不夠全面，因為協定中沒有涵蓋進口商品的關稅。
(Business) WTO Reaches First Global Trade Deal in 20 Years
The agreement is considered a milestone for the global economy.
The World Trade Organization (WTO) has reached its first global trade deal in almost two decades. Ministers from 159 countries finally came to a consensus after marathon talks in Bali on a deal that could add US$1 trillion to global economy and create 20 million jobs. This time the entire membership came together. We have put the world back in World Trade Organization, said WTO chief Roberto Azevedo. For the first time in our history, the WTO has truly delivered.
It is believed that the historic agreement could be a lifeline for the worlds poorest countries. The fact that rich countries and the more advanced developing countries have agreed to cut tariffs on products from the poorest countries means they will be able to sell their goods more easily. It is also hoped that their increased trading capacity will lead to more investment in logistics and infrastructure.
In spite of the progress made, some development campaigners have criticized the deal for not being comprehensive enough as it fails to cover tariffs on imported goods.
