IDC公告了明年PC產業出口預估量。預計將再衰退3.8%，而今年的衰退率較原先預估的9.7％還要更高。由於比較基期較低且各產商訂單量仍將持續減少，PC相關產業明年勢必將面臨更嚴重的挑戰。
今年PC總出貨量達3.14億台，較2012年下滑一成，主要原因是新興市場成長力道轉弱，歐美經濟復甦情況仍較緩慢。再加上微軟Windows 8風評不如預期，以及智慧型手機與平板電腦市場大幅成長，都是導致企業與消費者不願換機的原因。
由於PC長期缺乏新功能所以無法吸引市場買氣。如果未來有廠商能夠將PC定位為家庭的資訊中心，以非常簡單的方式串接所有的行動或智慧家電裝置，從PC定位成HC（Home Computer），也許如此才能再創造出另一波資訊革命。
(Business) PC Shipments Will Continue to Drop in 2014
International Data Corporation (IDC) has released its forecast for next years personal computer shipments. It is projected that PC shipments will fall by an additional 3.8 percent in 2014 and this years decline will be even more drastic than the previous estimate of 9.7 percent. Owing to shorter base periods and a steady decrease in orders from manufacturers across the board, the PC industry as well as other related industries will inevitably face even tougher challenges next year.
Total PC Shipments reached 314 million units this year, down 10 percent from 2012, with the main cause being the slowdown in emerging markets and the US and Europes sluggish economic recovery. On top of poorer-than-expected responses to Microsoft Windows 8 operating system and substantial growth in smartphone and tablet PC markets, businesses and consumers generally see a lack of reasons to replace an older system.
The fact that there havent been any breakthrough innovations in personal computers in a long time has made it difficult for companies to attract customers and boost sales. Perhaps another wave of information revolution is only possible if a company succeeds in transforming personal computers into a home information center in the future, using extremely simple means to connect all mobile devices or smart household appliances, ultimately turning a PC into an HC (Home Computer).
